How to Care for Natural Fiber Dresses and Tops
Natural fibers like cotton, linen, and silk breathe better, age better, and feel better against skin than synthetics — but they do ask for a little more care than a polyester blend. Here's how to keep your pieces looking new for years, not months.
Washing
Always check the care label first — fiber content and construction vary piece to piece. As a general rule, wash natural fibers cold on a gentle cycle to protect color and prevent shrinkage. Turn printed or embroidered pieces inside out before washing.
Drying
Skip the tumble dryer. Heat is the biggest cause of shrinkage and fiber breakdown in natural fabrics. Lay flat or hang to air dry instead — it takes longer, but it's the single best thing you can do for the lifespan of a garment.
Ironing and Wrinkles
Linen wrinkles by nature — it's part of the fabric's charm, not a flaw. If you prefer a crisper look, iron on a low-medium heat while the fabric is still slightly damp.
Storage
Fold heavier knits rather than hanging them, to avoid stretching at the shoulders. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, which can fade natural dyes over time.
